A little Tender Loving Care (TLC) goes a long way in helping your lawn recover from last year – keep it tall and wet, and Barefoot will keep it fertile, free from bugs and few weeds
The Lingering Effects of a Bad Year The year 2024 was a bad year for lawns – severe drought coupled with draconian water restrictions and then heavy rain for days during two hurricanes. What the drought and water restrictions didn’t kill, the heavy rains drowned. It was a tough year for lawns in Pinellas County.
Few lawns escaped without some damage.
But don’t despair. Your lawn is living thriving ecosystem that can recover – it just takes time and TLC (tender loving care). At Barefoot Grass, we provide a lot of TLC to keep your lawn fertile, free from damaging insects and less weeds. All we need from you is a little TLC by keeping the lawn “tall and wet” – mow as high as the mower can go and water as much as law permits (and more if possible).
St Augustine can spread 8 – 10” per growing season. For small, damaged areas less than a few square feet should be completely covered by mid-summer. Bigger patches will take longer. You can reduce recover times by introducing St Augustine into damaged areas with plugs or sod. Your recovery will vary depending on mow height and water – keeping it “tall and wet” will speed recovery.
